Spitting takes effort. Drool just falls out. That's the difference.

It is the ability to control your saliva that changes. An invalid drools but he is still awake. I drool over donuts, like Homer Simpson. Drool=uncontrollable. Spit=controllable.

Spit is forcefully propelled, you "spit it out". Drool just kind of seeps and drips. You can drool while you're awake. Sadly, it's a common problem with stroke victims who have facial paralysis. You can also spit while asleep, if a man can stab his wife four times while sleep walking (real court case), I'm sure there's at least a few "sleep-spitters" out there.

I think drool dribbles down your face and spit is an act of blowing drool out of your mouth.

When you're sleeping it's called drool because it collects into a pool. You drool when awake also. What about when you order a hot fudge sundae? Or when you look at Brad Pitt's abs?

Its not. It is called drool when it involutarly oozes from your mouth (when it comes out without you thinking or noticing), its called spit when you spit it (Spit is actually the verb, what you do, not the noun) In both cases the technical and actual name for the liquid in your mouth is saliva.

Because, when you're awake, the spit "drools" out. It comes out without your noticing it, thus "drool".
When you're awake, you usually "spit" it out. You are aware of it...

well I guess its because when you are asleep, you dont spit & the saliva is called drool because it drools out, and when youre awake you dont want drool hanging outta your mouth, so you spit it out, thus its spit.
