In France they speak French and as far as America:
USA they speak English
Canada English and french
Mexico Spanish
Central America Spanish
South America Spanish and Portuguese

Well in France they speak French and in the United States of America they speak English (officially anyway)

People in France can speak both French and English well.

People in the United States cannot speak either language well.

Assuming you know the obvious... French is a Latin language (like Spanish and Italian), while English is a Germanic language (meaning it's roots are in the German language, not Latin)
