don't you sometimes wonder how someone can put a thumbs down next to a question or answer...that does not evoke any feeling whatsoever? Just asking... don't mind the downs or ups...

I always give everyone who responds to MY questions a thumbs up just for being nice enough to respond. Usually I ask a question with the motive of getting the sarcastic and silly answers anyway so it doesn't bother me if somebody hacks on me with their answer, to some degree I expect a certain amount of that. I will occasionally give thumbs down to an answer to another person's question if I think the answer is being serious but in my opinion is WAY off base. I gave you a thumbs up on your question by the way because I think it is a sincere and well thought out question.

It doesn't bother me. It doesn't affect the points & all it's nothing more than either someone trying to give their opinion on what they're reading, or in many cases it's a juvenile reaction by some who have nothing better to do with their time than try to upset someone else by clicking on thumb's down all over the place.

Some people even follow a questioner/asker around and click the thumbs down on everything they can find on that person. Again, terribly immature.

For myself, I only rate thumb's up & only when I think someone else has asked/answered in a bloody brilliant manner, or to show my support of what's being asked/answered.

I don't thumb's down unless it's so bad that it probably breaks the site's rules & should be reported anyway.

Yep. I think some people give thumbs for the person. I notice that when certain people are here, all of my questions get at least one thumbs down as do my answers. So it seems like some people are "on me."

Sometimes tho I don't understand a thumbs down at all. When you ask a question that doesn't state your opinion at all and you get thumbs down.

Odd stuff this thumbs down crap. I give thumbs down when I think people are being mean, if someone obviously doesn't answer the question (goes out of their way to give a non-response), or it's an obviously offensive question/answer.

Thumbs up or thumbs down does affect me. Some people are negative and thumbs down everything just for the heck of it. Sometimes people don't like the asker, and they thumbs down all of that person's questions. It's not reality--just the Q&A world.

Yes sometimes I do wonder because sometimes good answers get thumbs down for no apparent reason. I think some people just rate questions and answers just because they can.

Well it must invoke some feelings or people wouldn't bother. I know I only thumb answers that I really either like or hate. I don't thumb answers or questions for no reason.

I always give the answers some thought before I rate them thumbs up or down. It also helps me sort out the answers to my questions. It is a good tool.
