I've never done drag before and I think I'm willing to give it a shot come Halloween! I know how to apply make-up but it looks as if the make up used on drag queens is different. Is there a specific brand that gives that look or is it just make up you get from Target heavily applied? Bashers will be reported :)

For those of you who think I'm a hetero wanting to mock drag queens, I'm not. I'm a full-fledged homo and I'm MARRIED to a man. Like I said, I know how to apply natural looking make-up, just wanted tips on the animated, yet artistic, application of drag.

First, you won't be doing drag. A drag queen is a gay male who does shows only, in drag. Rest of the time he is a gay man. You may be edging toward cross dressing, and there is nothing wrong with that. A cross dresser is almost always hetero. Some wives even like it when their MAN puts on a dress.
I'm a transsexual, been on hormones forever, and have pretty good skin. So i just buy what every other woman buys. If you have a 5 o'clock shadow, google theatrical make up for your area and check them out for foundation. And don't be shy...they sell to men every day. That's all you need to do different than me. I've had electrolysis (very painful), so i seldom wear foundation. It's interesting to note that many transfolk feel this is the most liberating thing they have done (including SRS surgery).
And whatever you do, be BOLD with the makeup, have oodles of fun fun, and don't forget your purse somewhere. That's easy to do the first few times.

Ok as the former Mr. KGRA 05 I spent a lot of time around drag queens in the make-up rooms. If you want an new expereince go into a dressing room before a big show.

The drag queens I knwo use what they can find in the local drug stores. Simpley because they do you a lot more of it than others do. So go find some simple inexpensive stuff. Remember to shave well and apply a think coat of pancake base to your face.

Get an old pair os hose and fill it with 1-2 cups of birdseed to make your boobs. Yeha read DQs use somethign else but this will get you by. Add 2 sizes to your male shoes size to find your ladies shoe size and I'm sure you can find some cheap shoes. Don't forget the rhinestones either. Lots of them.

One thing, If you are doing this for Halloween, don't try to out do the real DQs. you may want to try what is called Camp. It is a guy doing drag, with full beard/facial hair, unshaven legs and no hose. Make it look like you are mocking the DQs and have fun with it. Contact me if you need more help or pictures of some DQs

It's really good to forge out on your own and find your own style. If you're going to try to look like a real girl, you're best off just going with what you know. If you WANT to look a little artificial, and have that drag queen pancake, it's just really heavily applied foundation (often it's that heavy to help cover up that last bit of stubble that no razor can quite reach). That said, once you start getting into eye shadows, if you like bright colors (like I do) there IS special theatrical color that's really heavily pigmented. What that means is that it's really easy to get super-intense color instead of buying the normal stuff and applying that super-thick.
Good luck, and have fun!

No, they use really cheap stuff.

Here's what to do: go get a Glamour or Teen magazine--they often have make-up tips in them. Make a note to not follow any of their directions about what's "tasteful." You want to look like a drag queen, not a smart girl in a sassy suit.

Go get some outrageous colors of makeup. Don't forget tweezers and fake eyelashes. You will need lots of make-up remover.

Next: get a picture of Tyra Banks and put it on your mirror. Do your best to look exactly like her. When you go out, do your best to act exactly like her.

Have fun, and don't forget to say fabulous and b*tch as much as possible.

Dressing up for halloween isn't drag. It's dressing up for halloween. If the look you're going for is drag, then you're dressing drag for halloween.

If you want to do drag, try it when someone isn't expecting you to dress differently. Sorry for the bluntness, but if you want to experience drag, then you really need to do it as other than a costume on halloween.

Try using a pancake makeup. It gives the heaviest coverage. Any drug store should carry it. I love drag queens.

most drag queens ive seen do their make-up in an over-the-top extreme way. im betting its the thick foundation to cover facial hair but other than that im sure what you can afford will work. its all in how they apply it.
