my GF says after we're done having kids, she is gonna want me to get a vasectomy. I said why doesn't shy get one for herself instead (the female version)? She says for males it's just a snip snip outpatient procedure; for females you have to stay in the hospital with a general aesthesia and way more complicated. I said I would get one for her when the times comes. What do y'all think? Should I get one when the time comes? Girls, would you make your BFs/husbands get one?

This girl made her husband get one 10 years ago. Your g/f is right, it's much easier and cheaper for a man to get snipped than it is for a woman. And it's unfair to expect a woman with whom you're in a committed relationship to take a birth control pill indefinitely.

So yes, when you're all done having kids, the fairest thing you could do would be to have a vasectomy. You'll then be able to enjoy a weekend of being catered to by your family while you lounge in the recliner having complete control over the remote.

Your GF getting her tube tied is MAJOR surgery. You getting a vasectomy is a nothing procedure. It takes all of 30 minutes and you're awake for the whole thing. The worst of it is the first 48 hours. Everything hurts and it's uncomfortable to sit. After that it's all done. You don't even have a hospital stay, it's an 'in-office' procedure for the doctor.

Vasectomy is much less complicated and more effective (1 in 400 chance of pregnancy vs. 1 in 300 for tubal ligation.

Take a Valium before the procedure and by all means take it easy for a day or two despite how "normal" you feel - scrotal/testicular swelling is no picnic.

I didn't make my husband get one, but after I had our second kid and we decided to be done with that he volunteered to have it done. Your lady is right, it is a painful procedure for women from what I've heard and sometimes takes a long time to recover from physically. My husband had to wait about a week or so before they could test his sperm to make sure it was safe to have unprotected sex, and it's been on ever since. It is great not to have to worry with birth control, and it was a great gift that let me know how much he loves me. I went through childbirth, it was nice for him to make the next step for us. Think about it!

my bf says that anything that lets us have more sex with less worry is great. he's worried about my health being on the pill because as a side effect its raise my blood pressure to dangerous levels. and its only fair that if I've been doing something to alter my body for years and years then pop out his kids, its not fair for him to have me go through yet another proceedure that is much more difficult than a vasectomy. my dad had one after I was born and never looked back.

Both my father and grandfather had a vasectomy. They both said it was a piece of cake. My dad even went to a baseball game the same day.

My sister and I have both had our tubes tied and it sucks. The after effects are of course the incision and burning in your abdomen. Also, menstral cramps are horrible now.

Why is this in the MAKEUP category!?!?!?!?!

BTW: Vasectomy-in office day surgery-better in a few days.
Tubal Ligation-major surgery and at least a week off
from work. Costs more!
And depending on her age, they may not allow her to have it or the insurance company won't pay for it.

Its called a hysterectomy and it's a long healing procedure after the surgery. It depends on how many kids you guys have together, so if you have 4 I would say you both go for it!

Well, she's right, it's an easier procedure for guys. If you don't want any more kids at some point, then why not? She had to go through all the labor. You can do this one thing for her. I'd say go for it.
