I got my cable shut off approximately five years ago due to financial problems. My situation is a bit better now, and I could probably pay for it if I wanted to but I don't really miss it and I really don't want to pay a minimum of $50. People think I am strange when I say I do not have cable/satellite? Am I out of my mind? Am I really missing a whole lot? I still watch ABC, NBC, FOX, 22 and I think I spent more time than I should watching tv. I also feel I will become even lazier if I do get extended channels

You are not the only one without cable/satellite. My mom hasn't had it for much longer then 5 years. They buy DVD's and watch the shows that way if she wants to. It's true about the more channels you have the more you watch. I will admit that I am a tv addict but I'm not lazy. I go away every weekend and I am active with my boys (14 & 10). If you are happy with no cable/satellite then that's all that matters.

I don't have cable or satellite either. For the same reasons. All the shows I watch are on NBC anyways! I would like to have some of the satellite channels though...like Animal Planet and maybe Lifetime but I know if I had them I'd sit on my butt more and I already do that too much as it is!

You aren't strange!

When I was in college, my grades suffered because I spent too much time watching TV and not enough time with the books. So I canceled my cable subscription, unhooked the antenna, and bought a newspaper subscription instead. It's been eight years now, and I don't miss a thing. From time to time I'll buy a series of a TV show on DVD, and watch one episode one night a week till I've seen them all. It costs less, it's an easy way to regulate time, and I can read the news whenever I choose to, not whenever the network chooses to air it.

I cut off my cable back in March and am finding that I don't miss it. It was usually background noise anyway (in which case I just put in a cd or DVD). The shows I want to watch are all on network tv anyway.
So you don't have cable...so what? Most of the time, cable is just as Bruce Springsteen said, "57 channels and nothing on."

I have never had cable...and I am not weird at all. I just can't see spending the money. You can only watch one channel at a time, why do you need 300 channels. I have "rabit ears" and my basic stations come in great. My favorite channel is ABC.

I have never had cable/satellite. I work too much and when I have time to watch t.v. I watch a movie. I don't see why people are paying for cable/satellite?

I have rabbit ears on my 50" HDTV. Really. It's not that there's nothing on cable or satellite that I wouldn't mind seeing...it's just that it doesn't warrant the $50+ expense that would go into seeing those shows. HD over-the-air broadcasts look awesome, anyway, and I'd rather spend the money on DVD's.

No you're not the only one without Cable TV, but you are the only one still on dial up! hahhahahahh

If you're ok without it, never ever get it! Because like cell phones, with time it gets better and what used to be added convenience becomes a necessity!

I have not had cable or satellite for about two years and I now think better and spend more time talking to people. My advice is kill your TV, my guess is you will do just fine.
