I agree. Not only is Congress out of touch with US citizens and the issues citizens find important, but they act as if they do not care.
I do not know exact numbers, but polls show a vast majority of the US population wants something done about immigration, and yet Congress does nothing. Polls show that Americans want the War in Iraq esolved in one way or another, yet Congress does nothing. Congress is out for themselves and they couldn't care less who they stomp on to get what they want.
If you have written a Congressman lately, you have probably experienced this first hand. You are lucky to get an automated response. More often than not, atleast in my case, I get nothing. The one instance when I did receive a response that seemed to be from my Congressman, he was rude and not even on topic with what I had written him.

Polls are manipulated.
I can create a questionnaire poll designed to make the conclusion that your mom should run for President...dead or alive.
Don't let what everyone says bother you, man, if you believe in the polls, feel free, but it's not true.
Earlier in the show the former NBC anchor and current This Week host acknowledged liberal bias. "Well, it's there and it doesn't show itself in everything that is printed or broadcast but it is there, and I think we're all used to it, we discount it. Some of the press also is more conservative and it's just the way the action is in this country and I don't know any way to change it. You just have to live with it."

Absolutely out of touch, they do not address the real problems of the country, affordable health care, consumer protection, real solutions to immigration, solving an energy crisis, acting now on global warming, just to mention a few. Congress and other political party's are only concerned about there own wealth and those that do them favors, the country is sinking fast because of them...

Congress is a big group of people. A lot of them are out of touch. Some of them are in touch.
