Just when I thought I had the processor thing fiured out I'm lost. I've been wanting to buy a Dell with a 3 or 2.8 Gz processing speed, but now there's been a twist to it all. It seems like Dell now has processors called AMD Athlon and Intel Core 2 Duo. What's the difference? I could figure it out when everything was Gz... the more the better, but now these new terms I don't understand. Please tell me what's better, and if saving a few bucks buying one with the 3.0 or 2.8 Gz is just as good... Thanks!!!

About duos: Think of it as a two lane highway. Instead of one car (Antivirus) waiting for the other (web browser), like in a standard processor, both can run simultaneously. It's like having 2 processors. AMD Athlon is just a different brand. A 3800 is 3.8 GHz. An X2 is a dual-core processor, like Intel Core 2 Duo.

If you're going to be doing video editing and other demanding applications, choose the Duo or X2. If you're going to be performing basic computing tasks, get a standard processor.

Also, get the fastest processor you can afford. It's easier to get the speed now than 5 years from now.
