I watch my nephew, who is 9 months old, a couple days a week. Today my brother (his Dad) brought him over for me to watch and said that he has purple spots on the folds of his neck. He has 8 spots total and they don't look like chicken pox or measles. They are small, very purple dots. He is acting his normal, giggly self and has no fever or any other symptoms. These dots just sort of sprang up overnight. WebMd.com wasn't much help. All it suggested was measles, chicken pox or strep throat, all of which are accompanied by fever, but he has none.

These are just flat (even with the skin) purple dots going from the bottom of his neck in a line diagonally to the top of the fatty fold.

When in doubt, go to the doctor!!! I remember a kid in my school had something like that and it ended up being a type of meningitis that resulted in many skin graphs and amputation of his arms and legs. Don't risk anything!

Sounds like it might be either heat rash or an allergic reaction/irritation. If it doesn't clear up on its own in just a day or two tell dad to take him to the doc to have it looked at. If he is showing no other symptoms then everything should be ok but, like I said if its not gone in 24-48 hours let the doc have a look just to be on the safe side.

Maybe its an insect or parasites, or it could just be heat rash. does it look like a bite and does he seem to want to scratch at them if not it probably is only a heat rash, keep an eye on them if they are still there next week I'd take him to a clinic just to make sure he is ok.

Sounds like he's drooly and has irritation bumps in the folds of his neck. They probably itch. Its perfectly 100% normal and quite common.

Put a bib on him and keep his neck wiped dry.

Heat rash? Or maybe its just where his clothes has rubbed on his neck??

I know my son looks like he has a rash on his neck after he wears shirts with collars. His doc told me its probably just were the collar rubs on his neck.

I've never heard of that before. Do they protrude like a mole or are they just spots? If they protrude, then see a doctor (actually you might want to see one anyway). Moles shouldn't have color because if they do then they could be cancerous.

Always talk to a doctor first, but it might be a heat rash.
