You can't make Internet calls without using VoIP. If you want to use your landline only then you have to use it the old fashioned way by picking it up and dialing a number. You can use a head set if you have a phone with a headset jack on it. The computer is uses an Internet Connection so it uses Voice over Internet Protocol. The computer is not able to directly use a phone line without the Internet VoIP. Sorry to tell you this as it is not what you wanted to hear, but it is just this way for now until new technology comes about which will allow the use of a landline phone via the computer without using the ISP connection.

Now, you can use the Messenger to make phone calls to landlines but it still uses a form of VoIP, and has costs related to use. But it is a great service. You can make free computer to computer calls and use a headset if you wish.

I recommend getting headset that connects to USB.
