But seriously, unless you live in a state that legalizes canabis for medical purposes, you should not try growing it. There is a 3 strikes and your out rule when it comes to drugs. You get caught with a federally prosecutable amount of weed on your person, your vehicle or your property then they will seize the property involved, ie house, car, boat, whatever and you never get those things back unless you prove that the weed wasn't yours and the case is dismissed. And also, if you are prosecuted the third time for weed in a federal court, you will be in jail for the max amount, 20 years I think. Not really sure, but do ya want to take the risk?

cannabis is basically a weed.
start them indoors place the seeds in a wet paper towel
and keep it wet until the seeds soften and swell up
plant them about a 1/4 inch depth
when the seedlings are about 12" tall
pinch off the sucker leaves( the ones that are straggly and yellow)
at about 2 feet you gotta start topping the plant to make it bushy
because the more limbs you get the more buds you get
they gotta have lots of water and sunlight and they are heavy feeders. when the light starts changing in the early fall is what makes them start to bud. this is when you got to remove the male plants.
the males show no sign of flowering. pull all of em up and just leave the females. the buds will continue to grow up until frost
and i heard that if you let the first frost hit them the smoke will be smooth.
then hang them up to dry where they will not get moldy
enjoy
oh yeah...topping means pruning...pinching them back at the tips forces the plant to grow more limbs but don't over do it

back when I was young and dumb I'd take my seeds from my sorting tray and save them. I had Maui Waui, Columbian, Acapulco Gold or Thai I'd try to keep each separate.
I worked for a farmer and while disking the field or planting corn I had access to corners of fields on which I would plant my "ditch weed". Of Course that was nearly 30 years ago and times have changed substantially.
In the fall before we'd harvest corn, I'd make my own harvest runs. bring home as much as I could hang in the barn in the evening, and try and process it out before my employer caught me. Now possession is a serious offense amongst the naysayers. Counties aerial spray tree lines and fence lines in hope of cleaning up "ditch weeds".
Back in the lates 70s the Paraquat revolution was upon the pot smoker.
Better thing to do is to quit smoking it, As much as it pains me to say pot and motivation are not compatible. If you grow it, in all likelihood you'll be too busy playing your X-Box to go out and tend to your crop.

Basically, you just put seeds in the ground like any other plant. Growing cannabis professionaly requires very expensive equipment though, you don't really need that unless you want to sell it (don't), so just plant a few plants in pots or your back yard (just make sure nobody can see them) and enjoy.
