Anger is a secondary emotion. Not to say it is less important, but that it always comes after a trigger. It does not exist without the assistance of another emotion. The key to controlling it is dealing with the initial emotions, frustration, fear, jealousy, whatever, on their own. Face them down and the anger is a choice. It can be very useful, but when you take control of it you get to decided if it is a good tool to use in the moment, or if it will cause you more harm than good. The very first thing you should do when you get angry is to stop, count, breathe whatever, but take two seconds to stop (you know when it's coming) and ask yourself quite consciously the lable for the emotion triggering. You can do this all in your head, no cheeziness. The second step is decision on your part whether blowing up will help you or not. If you blow up, try to direct it at something you can't harm. And if you don't blow up, the third step is figuring out what to do with the emotion that triggered it. Good luck. I was born in a very explosive and violent family, and it's taken me years to get to a nice pleasant burbling semi-active volcanic state. But trust me, it's really worth it.

Yes it can be. You can learn to manage your anger. It doesn't mean ignoring it, but finding out the things that anger you and learning how to deal with them in other ways rather than getting angry about them.

I believe that you can display your anger and not become violent. Trying to ignore your emotions doesn't do anyone any good. People need to know how you honestly feel about your behavior, if not we will continue to live in a world of brown nosing freaks.
Plus holding things in isn't good for your digestion.

If you already at the "blow up" point, step back ,count to 10 and breath slowly!
And say some nice things to yourself!
If you feel it is getting to you,try to not let it "in"; here again ,say some nice things to you!
Last advice; do some active sports, boxing, running, tennis gym...
and let the energy out!
Good luck!
