No it will be FT&E but most houses that age will have been rewired or added to because people never needed so many outlets in those days. its worth the extra on the survey to check its been done right.

There is absolutely no way of knowing what the electics could be like until you see them. I bought a house built in the 80's 3 1/2 years ago which had most of its electrics upgraded and additional sockets put it. Two months ago, I bought an almost identical house 100 metres away, built at the same time - electrics have to be upgraded even though it had nice white plastic switch covers and sockets. Normally it is recommended that electrics are upgraded after 20 years (doubt if this happens tho) because heat generated along the wiring eventually causes the wiring to go brittle. There is a fair chance that a house from the 60's has already had some sort of upgrade, but you can't be sure. It would be an investment to have a qualified electrician take a look and go on his/her advise.

About that time wiring was changing to PVC sheathed from rubber insulation and sheathing, there was also a lot more single cables used in steel conduit, it all depends on the area and quality of build. The only way is to have an electrician FULLY inspect it, don't rely on a surveyor, if they see a couple of white switches they reckon that it's been totaly rewired and modernised!

they will probably be awful as my sister has just bought a house which happens to be in the same age group and she had to have it newly rewired through out , but it also depends on how bad it is ask for a free qoate

it will be t& e but old pre metric cable, it will need rewiring to bring it to bs 7671 which is the current regulation. a good electrician should be able to advise you.ask to see his rgistration card. i am a electrician good look

you can't be certain just by the age of the house. Do you know if it is original wiring?
I'd have an electrican come in and check it out, to give you a heads up as to if anything needs to be rewired.

If you still have the red, black and green wiring, then I would have an electrician check it out. Also check the fuse box. If it has the old fuse wire type of fuses then it should be changed.

Have an electrician look at it. Just in case your wires are old, or aluminum. These are a fire hazzard.
