i think smoking should be completely banned its just when other people smoke in the same room its really unfair for the people who don't . smokers not just recking thier health but recking other peoples health too and when they want to be healthy they have no choice but to live with the toxic fumes outside from cars and and now inside from people i hate the smell and what it does i'm only 16 and certainly don't want to even go near those things and reck my life.
smoking is just piontless and dosen't improve or do anything except reck everything

YES... most definately yes. Smokers don't seem to realise that they STINK.... they may be offended by this but it's true. Also making someone inhale your excreted smoke fumes is not only health damaging but completely anti-social. People go to work because they have to earn a living. If it was a public bar then I would say fair enough as long as there is a section where you can enjoy a few pints without coming home stinking like an ash tray.
A lot of smokers say they want to give up so banning smoking in the workplace is a great incentive for them. For those who can't go without a cigarette for 4 hours between main breaks live a very sorry life indeed.
Same goes for people who stink with BO in the workplace. They should be told to freshen up. Why should anyone have to put up with being confined in an area with someone who stinks?
The truth sometimes hurts.... but it IS the truth....
Take care,
Graham

The ban is already in place in Scotland and Ireland, soon to be the rest of the UK. Best thing thats happened in a long time.
Why should we have to put up with selfish smokers who whine about 'their rights'? What about other peoples rights to get a decent bit of clean air?
And why do smokers go on about "oh, what about car emissions, thats worse than smoking......what about this or that...blah bloody blah! Why does it have to be either/or?
AND..........HAR HAR HAR..I am an enforcement officer who gives out fines if I catch you smoking in a workplace or pub etc. £50 on the spot and £200 if the boss knew about it. Bloody expensive habit and some smokers are so thick that they've been done 2 or 3 times already!!

Of course it should be banned. I'm surprised that there are places that it's still allowed, other than bars and restaurants.
As far as the hilarious 'diet section' comment, someone on a diet won't give you cancer, ruin your clothes, or affect you negatively (unless they are in a bad mood).
States that have strict smoking laws have seen little detrimental effect on morale, sales, or other excuses that smoking proponents regularly use when debating the issue. When smoking was banned in California, many people actually went out MORE!
If your fellow employees are violating a company policy and it's bothering you, then you need to bring it up to a manger ASAP. If it's violating a state law, you can even put in an anonymous tip that it's being broken. But of course, talk to management first.

No, although it is here in New Mexico. I've heard all the arguments for second hand smoke but there should be a designated area for smokers - after all, we still are citizens with rights. I'm tired of all these health freaks screaming about second hand smoke and then they go out and get completely drunk at night. What a bunch of hypocrites!!! Or, what about the damage they're doing to themselves with their Starbucks every morning. It gets really old when you can't even go to get a nice meal out without having to be seated on the patio. We do have some rights!!! But, I work as an office manager out of someone's home and they smoke also, so I get to smoke at work - all day!!!

Yes it should be banned in the work place / pub`s club`s etc and the sooner the better . And i think this is a disgusting habit i don`t see why i should have to put up with people working alongside me stinking of smoke ( as they do ) And when i go out for a drink at the weekends why should i have to come home stinking of smoke from the club`s / pub`s etc ? It should be banned now ! if it effect`s other people`s health by passive smoking then ban it . if the smoker want`s to die then do it by yourself and leave me out of it !

Yes it should. I am an ex-smoker, but I never smoked while at work as I was being paid to work. Lots of smokers bunk off every so often to smoke while the rest of us carry on with our work. Smoking rooms are usually vile and smelly and permeate the air all around anyway.
My pet hate is people smoking in the doorways to offices, hospitals etc. I hate walking thorugh the fug to get in and out ofthese places.

Now the Winter is coming ,Smokers have more chance of catching Flu standing outside, then they are too ill to work.
also as they go outside for 10minutes a time (some even abuse that ) they just use the excuse to shy off work.
Its the Non Smokers who suffers by having to fill in while they are sitting outside in the July/Aug Sunshine.

Do you want them to ban smoking because it bothers or tempts you now? I know that would make it easier for you, but it wouldn't be fair to other people. They should have to stick to a designated area though. Have you noticed how far some areas are going in the effort to ban smoking? It seems that they are trying to control smokers or ban smoking entirely rather than protect people from second hand smoke. I believe that smoking should be done in designated areas, but as long as smoking is legal no one has the right to control the behavior of people who choose to smoke (just for the sake of controlling them). It's bad enough that smokers are already heavily punished through ridiculous and ever rising taxes on their products.

I think it should. But then again, I am a non-smoker. Over the years I have had to put up with work colleagues who gave no thought to my discomfort and the possible side-effects on my health. Now that there is an opportunity to ban smoking in the workplace I think we should. In Eire, 86000 people have now given up the habit simply because they began to cut down when the new law came in as it was inconvenient to go outside to smoke. They then gave up completely. This is in addition to all the benefits to our NHS with valuable bed space not being taken up.So, yes, is my answer!

yes it should and i do smoke, just because i choose to risk my life doesnt mean i should maje other people suffer, i did a project at college on this subject and about 2 thirds of smokers agreed that it should be banned in all public places, i dont really like having to go outside a pub for a cig but i'd rather that than be responsible for someone else getting ill
