The best book about Lennon's political/social opinions is Jon Wiener's 'Come Together: John Lennon In His Time', published by Faber in the UK. It's a well-researched study of Lennon the activist. Unfortunately, like basically all books about Lennon it's way too partial, and not nearly accurate about Lennon's musical contribution to the Beatles. Wiener also clearly believes that Lennon did his best stuff as a solo artist, which leads me to think that he's got some sort of hearing problem. But if you want evidence to support the idea that Lennon became more feminist as he got older, you'll find it here.

There's also more evidence in Lennon's own posthumous book 'Skywriting By Word Of Mouth', but like all Lennon's own statements about himself it has to be taken with a bit of salt. He was a moody old sod.

"John Lennon" by Ray Coleman is his official biography. It's pretty good, but probably a bit "tame" as it was written shortly after his death and Coleman was a good friend of his. But I think it is really the best one you can find about the "man".

My wager might desire to be "Catcher interior the Rye", simplest for the rationalization that the guy that killed him pronounced the final person of the e-e book, Holden, 'steered him to'. John Lennon's killer was once additionally pronounced to have the e-e book with him on an identical time as he kill him. o.O
