I have just found out out that I have had high Blood Pressure since January. I am amazed that I have never been put on medication, since both my parents have passed away with conditions related to high blood pressure. They want to check Blood Pressure every week at the surgery, this is nearly impossible because of the distance I have to travel.

high blood pressure is the main symptom /cause of;
strokes , heart disease , kidney problems and diabetes ....

As your doctor wants to monitor ,your blood pressure trend weekly .
it is important that this is done .
Maybe the district nurse can call in and do that
if you are unable to get up to the surgery,

They will also need ,to check on your blood cholesterol levels etc
there are many drugs that can be given , to reduce your high blood pressure
i am sure the doctor will prescribe some for you ,
if your condition warrents THIS ,

Sometimes ,our blood pressure goes up and down, for simple reasons, like stress .

all medications have some side effects ,
They will not be given, unless the doctor finds
your blood pressure consistently high.

I am a diabetic with all the fun things that go "with"

i am on waferin to thin my blood , astevastin , to lower cholesterol and beta -blockers, to reduce my high blood pressure , and all sorts of .other things besides

I hope your doctor, will soon be able to reassure you
and treat you ,
if your condition requires it

Try to discuss ,this with him ,
also your mobility problems ( you are not alone in this )

All the very best to you

IMO
blood home presure machines, are not very accurate
and have a worrying effect ,if they give inconsistent readings .

If you just found out you have high blood pressure it is possible that they didn't put you on medication before because it wasn't high before. Now they want to monitor it every week. It sounds to me like they are treating it. Buy a blood pressure machine at Wal-Mart or any pharmacy and check it at home and then look for a doctor closer to you if you can't travel that far every week.

Why not get yourself a blood pressure monitor and take it at different times of the day ,record it and hand it to your doctor when you go ,these monitor they are now saying save lives, you don`t say what your pressure is so cannot comment on that ,It may be that you have white coat syndrome where when you go to the doctor your pressure will go up due to your nerves,if you take it at home it may be different ,I am sure the Dr will put you on medication if you need it ,anyhow good luck and do keep an eye on it either way

3 years ago, I was diagnosed - hypertension with a reading of 160/100. I used to feel dizzy a lot, my legs had awful cramps, and levels were very low in my potassium, causing my fingers and toes to always cramp together. One day I started to feel really faint while I was driving with my daughter in the back seat and I passed out, hitting 3 cars and ending up in a ditch. That moment,I knew I had to do something because my meds weren't working. I heard about this diet from a friend and thought I'd give it a shot. The results have been remarkable. In just 21 days, I honestly can't remember feeling this good, my blood pressure went from 175/110 to 125/70.

I don't mean to be rude but if you were really concerned about your blood pressure than you would find a way of getting to the surgery. Your health must be a priority, especially as there appears to be a genetic link in your family. I too have this problem and I had to go twice a week for five weeks. Inconvenient, yeah. But, it saved my life. Am now on medication and blood pressure is normal. Do yourself a favour and get to the Docs before its too late.

At one time the treatment of high blood pressure (Hypertension), followed a very rigid approach. Nowadays doctors are much more relaxed about the way they approach the treatment of hypertension or high blood pressure in their patients, preferring a much more patient centred approach.

Your Dr. probably wants to establish a record of your B/P over time, to see if there are patterns. Medication is actually the last thing to try. Lifestyle and dietary changes are preferable, since medication can have side effects, especially on other pre-existing conditions.

If you are concerned with the weekly visits being inconvenient, then discuss with your Dr. the option suggested above, home monitoring.

I have high blood pressure and am on daily medication for it. My general practicioner is the one who is monitoring me. I recommend buying a monitoring device too, so you can check it regularly and share your readings with your doctor. Your reading in an office visit could be misleading if you had a stressful drive and then became annoyed sitting in a stuffy waiting room. Mine is a Wristech Digital Blood Pressure Monitor by North American Healthcare. It is reasonably priced and easy to use.

I have hypertension and believe me I'd rather NOT be being treated for it. I've tried 3 different drugs so far and they all have yukky side effects. Ramipril made by cough - quite violently at times and Amlodopine causes water retention in my ankles. My sex drive has dropped considerably as has my energy levels in general.

Do as the others have suggested. Get your own BP monitor, lose weight and exercise more if that's what the quack suggests. Avoid the drugs. Ignorance WAS bliss.
