Where I am employed, we only get six weeks. Is this low or average?

It's average. My maternity leave was 6 weeks, I think they should increase it to 12 weeks. This would give working mothers more bonding time with thier babies.

Down here (southamerica) the average is 11 weeks, or at least where I live. It's the law, if you work, your employer has to give you 11 weeks or he will have to pay a high amount for breaking the law, or even go to jail.

Legally you can take anything as long as it does not exceed 12 weeks, and that is while getting paid. Different companies have different rules but that is all really up to you. You can bring up the law and discuss that you would rather take more as long as it is not more then 12 they aren't allowed to let you go.

Lucky you. 6 weeks is average.

We don't have a plan at my work. I will only be able to afford maybe 2.
