Why? Do you think we are forced to show him respect as if we lived in a dictatorship? I know Bush said once "A dictatorship would be easier. No doubt about it." But he is not the dictator and we are free in this country to have our own ideas. Especially when the president thinks he is above the Constitution.
How come republicans don't agree?

David B, don't be ridiculous! I have always loved America and always respected the office. And I always will!

The core of conservatism is to stand behind the father figure regardless of ones action and to attack anyone who presents evidence that may discredit the decider. This is why conservatives are more likely to fall victim to corrupt organized religions. conservatives are also easily susceptible to fear and are more likely to bow to the father figure in times of fear.

Its not about respecting the man. Its about respecting the office. You have to respect the office that he holds, whether you agree with him or not. He is still the President of the United States. You don't have to respect the man. However, if the office of the President loses respect, then he becomes much like the Queen of England, a figureheadd with no real power.

Oh and for the record, Not saying it would be better, but a dictatorship would definitely be easier.

Again a lesson on respect. What is with people today. One poster today went over the line advocating for the assasination of the President of the United States of America. Again - everyone should respect the President of the United States of America. Disagree with the President, his policies, his beliefs - fine. You are free (in this country) to express your ideas, opinions, disagreements with the President. No one (despite what you nutty conspiracy theorists might conjure up), no one is preventing you from expressing your ideas. I am sorry your parents didn't instill this positive character trait upon you in your formative years. Do you need a hug?

Maybe it's because there's way too many of you pinheads who can't have an honest debate about a subject or a point of view, but always have to take it three steps beyond civility just to assuage your feelings of inconsequentiality. You don't like it when Republicans make smart remarks about Democrats but it's perfectly OK for you hypocritical Democrats to say whatever you want and lie as much as you want to make their futile little absurd points. If you can't respect the man, respect the office. If you can't do that, you are a very little person and not deserving of any respect yourself.

Because he is the President of the United States, if you truly dislike the man you should still respect the office.

I don't think you're obligated to respect anyone..... I just feel like it's the appropriate thing to do. Respecting him doesn't also mean that you need to agree with him or support his stand. It just means that you treat him civilly and fairly. I'm not a fan of this President by any means, but I think everyone is deserving of equal respect.

Because all people deserve respect. If your a republican, look at the alternative! John Kerry would have screwed this country up so bad; compared to Bush he would have been like taking four huge steps backward. And we probably would have lost our chance at ANWR.

Given all the respect they showed Clinton, I wouldn't think they have any claim to respect for Bush.

But secretly, many Republicans disrespect Bush, too.

We show respect for anyone who has obtained this office of leadership in our country. I don't care for Pres. Carter or for Pres. Clinton on several counts, yet I would never be rude to either. These men are hard working, sincere Americans and they deserve respect. You are not obligated to show respect because you live in the US and have the agency to be crude and show your low level of humanity.

Because Republicans fully support and are pushing for a dictatorship.
