Would you let them?

Although the elderly people I know don't seem to be the checker-playing type, if they were....

I would realize they are adults who have lived longer than I have and who are most likely still quite capable of making decisions for themselves, even if they appear more fragile than they once were or even if some of the "mechanics of joints" makes them less able to do things as easily.

If you understand and respect elderly people to some reasonable degree you don't presume to have a right to decide what to "let" them do.
