You need to put these icons back on your toolbar. Go to View on the browser menu and select Toolbars and make sure your Standard Toolbar has a chech next to it. If that does not fix the problem go to the same View-Toolbars and select the bottom most selection-Customize. In the cusomize dialog box you can select which buttons you want on your toolbar.
The box on the left has the available buttons you can select from and the right has the ones currently on your toolbar. Look in the right box and see if the forward and back buttons are in the box of currently used buttons. Sometimes when there is a lot of buttons some will not show up as there is only so much room on the toolbar for them all. Usually a chevron will show the hidden buttons (>>) but without the (). When you click on >> the other buttons appear. You can move the ones you want to show by using the "Move Up" and "Move Down" buttons. Make sure the back and forward buttons are at the very top.
If they are not in the currently used button section then find them in the available button section and use the move button to put them in the box at the right and then use the move up or down to place them at the top.
Good luck and have a nice day!
