Because it's easier to let a kid eat junk all day long than to try and be a parent and get your kids to eat healthy, exercise, etc.
As a parent, I have taken the easy way out before and let my kids eat Kid Cuisine or Lunchables or McDonald's. Just because of time issues or whatever. But I only do that once in awhile. Imagine if you did it every day instead taking the time to provide nutritious meals for your children. It would be so easy to let your kids become morbidly obese.

Some people honestly dont see the issue with having an overweight or even obese baby. They see fat rolls and think 'healthy baby' when in fact their child is anything but. My girl has been called skinny because she only had one little fat roll on her thigh... poor thing, I wasnt feeding her enough!! She eats just fine, but I believe in only providing healthy foods and that there is a limit to how much she eats. Just so no one thinks I'm some strict food nazi here, I've never let my daughter cry longer than 2 minutes at a time and she's been gaining weight fine and all that...
I've seen parents (friends of my husband) stick a bottle in their baby's mouth at the first sign of a peep, even if they have eaten recently. To me this is out of laziness. They must know they are overfeeding their baby but ignore the consequences. The baby girl I'm thinking of was absolutely huge... I'm pretty sure she weighed at 6mths what my daughter does at a yr. Her parents laughed about it, saying their chubby girl would work it off once she started crawling. At a yr she wasnt crawling yet, she didnt roll over until 9mths I think it was. How could she, she was too fat! Only time will tell if this girl has a problem with her weight later in life, but studies show the risk is greatly higher now for her to be an obese adult.
As for parents who only provide hamburgers, fries, macaroni & cheese, pasta, etc to their older child because 'that is all they will eat' I do feel sorry for them. Once you start going down that road of offering junk food, children can throw fits until they get that and only that on their plate. I'm going to try very hard to not let my daughter get a liking of that in the first place.

I think sometimes parents forget to change the size of the portions they feed their kids compared to what they serve themselves. And then they insist the kid finishes all the food on the plate or...no dessert!!
And I hope I don't offend others, but it's a shame to see an entire OVERWEIGHT family. I know genes play a role, but also sharing the same eating habits.
I pray for these "jumbo" babies. They really miss out on alot of things when they can't function as a normal child.

Who knows why. I've seen that too and it looks like a lot of the mothers are doing everything they can to help their babies lose weight, but there is some underlying illness that keeps the babies from losing.
To the ones who purposely feed their babies junk, shame on them!

well I think that a baby is supposed to be chunky and chubby...within the normal range of weight. I think skinny babies are just a bad as overweight babies..b/c that means they are not fed enough...and that can kill them as well. They babies that are on the talk shows that are huge...are crazy!! The moms need to be slapped! There kids will hate them for what they have done to them!...They are really ruining their kids life

I've seen that - isn't it Maury?
Yeah - that's insane. I remember seeing the one where the 2 year old was eating fried chicken in the bath. One of my babies was a fat baby and slimmed out later. While he was still fat, we used to ask him if he would eat fried chicken in the bath and perhaps like a tray of donuts after!
Did you notice that the parents aren't fat people?! They must be compensating for something.

i think its sick. ive seen a few talk shows where the parents over feed their babies and feed them fast food all the time. this one lady said "well thats what he likes so i give it to him" if that is all you give the kid, how do you know thats all he likes? its so sad. there is a growing trend of obese children in america and its really sad, parents need to teach their children good nutrition. if only everyone could think like us. i think it should be considered child abuse when a child is extremely obese and its not a biological or health problem causing it.
