I just ask a question about something in the past, why do whites assume it was slavery? Malcom X, Emmet Till, Dr. King, were oppressed and not by slave owner. KKK, Lynching, rape and over 300 white roits in 50 years were not slave owners. Murders were not always by slave owners in fact over 70% of the oppression blacks face were from non slave owner racist, Policeman, Jim Crow, KKK the Goverment etc.
So why assume oppression was only by southern slave owners? Is it Ignorance or what?

It seems that the Black people are the one who brings up the slavery issues, and how they have been victimized. Yes, they have been victimized, but we should move on, and stop pointing the fingers at each others, and blaming the white people now for what their fore parents did in the past. As a matter of fact, there were Black slave owners just as there were white.
Some what may be yes it is ignorance, it is not just the white or black people, it is those around us who would rather live in the past keep pointing the fingers at others and how they wronged them, instead of moving on and make a better life for them. Look at people like Oprah, she is a great example how one can make their life great, and she did it herself.

I only said it as a example because of the previous question about apologizing for Slavery. Why should I, There is plenty of racism to go around. On both sides, Why do Some black people act like there are no prejudice in there own race against others? there's plenty. Blacks murder, rob and rape to. What about things like affirmative action that passes over a qualified white for a non qualified minority? that's a wrong trying to right another wrong. it should be the best person for the job period!!!
I see many still blaming others for all there ills. and that's just not true. if you really want something you will get. there are plenty of whites, me included who had to pull themselves out of the welfare trap (in the days before welfare reform and it was a hell of a lot harder to get out of it) and made something of themselves, I'm now a nurse. I didn't get it handed to me on a silver platter just because I was white. do you think I got preferential treatment at the welfare office. a NO! I had to work for everything I got. anyone can if they want it bad enough in this day. It is time to move into the future learn form the past and not do it again. I have been on the receiving end of racism. and I don't hold it against anyone I meet today. Why, It doesn't change what happened does it. I don't hold it against an entire race, Its a reflection of the person not the race. As long as we keep on harping on the differences, and the blame game. the racial gap will never close. And dont you think its time it does?

It seems to me that more black people bring up the slavery issue than white people do. That is just my observation. I have never assumed that oppression was only by southern slave owners. White people also suffer from oppression.

I read your question yesterday and put it on my watchlist and I see that it seems that most people who answered didn't even read the details of your question.
I think the explanation of "Survivors ready?" is right, and another factor might be that white Americans prefer to mention slavery because this way they think they can say "this has been so long ago now, we have nothing to do with it".

Good point! Why is the issue of slavery always brought up? Especially since no Blacks alive today suffered being a slave and no Whites today benefit from owning them.
Why don't you tell us.

Because like the Holocaust, it is perceived as such a terrible part of our history that every one just assumes that in topics of oppression, civil rights, etc. people assume that that is the direct cause.
I refer to the Holocaust because whenever WWII or Jewish persecution is discussed, that is direction towards which conversation naturally flows.

I am white and I do not bring up slavery unless someone starts a conversation with me about it. I cannot speak for those who do bring it up.

A white person did not ask this question. An angry, ignorant, black one did. So, look in the mirror, and tell us what color you are.
So your argument is shot full of holes. Do not continue to BLAME everything on racism, to make up for your obvious shortcomings.
