I was recently given an unstamped penny as change back at the grocery store. Is it worth anything to collectors?

Are you 100% positive that it is a penny, and not somebody's homemade slug designed to fool a store owner?

Check it out against a struck cent. It must weigh the same. If it is a cent blank, there are 2 types, one is just a blank this is a type 1 and the other is ready to be struck, it has a rim and is called a type II. Both are actually common. They sell for from $2 to $ 5.00 depending on condition.

Unstamped planchets do sometimes get out of the mint. Go to a coin dealer have them check the weight and dimensions of the coin to verify that it is legit.

if it is a genuine one(hopefully), you have to research a bit to know if such a mistake ever occured by the post office while making currency. if you find tha **** a true one, definitely it will be worth collecting.
