I know this is happening in more states then Massachusetts... but I saw the Attleboro story this a.m. and my first thought was 'that is soooo Mass. they are so uptight'. I get the willies just driving through Mass.
As far as the trend, I guess a litigious public is partly to blame. However, we are also victims of the post 9-11 world where suddenly we aren't supposed to hurt or suffer at all-- no matter the cost to our freedom.
Are there documented cases of fatalities from these sports/games? I've never heard any.
The word is "tag" not tackle, maim or destroy. If kids are playing too rough keep it in check. If you actually play 'tag' it's not damaging. It's exercise! God knows our fat slob kids need that!
I think it's a loss to kids, who are going to return to classes from recess with pent up energy. Poor teachers!

I don't understand why tag would be banned, unless there are some kids who are slower than others and don't have a good chance of winning.

Dodge ball can get pretty mean and it has a potential for injury, so I have no problem with banning that game.

I didn't know that. Dodge ball always scared me, though, because I was a little girl. Some of those boys threw hard! Tag seems relatively safe, that one I don't understand.

it's ridiculous! we have become such a "sue happy" society that children can't even be children; if there are bullies in the game remove them; don't make all of the kids suffer; there is so much in the news about couch potato/overweight children; no wonder, all of the outdoor, active games are against the law!!! go figure!

What ban? How recent is this? It stinks to hear about this, those are two classic recess games.
