The people who say "it's only okay if.." are ridiculous.
Okay, so it's murder when the mom just gets knocked up and has an abortion but it's not murder if the mom was raped? That is completely stupid. Either way, a small human is still being killed. It's murder no matter what the situation.

No way. Although I wouldn't have an abortion (although I would if it was rape) I believe a woman should be able to do whatever she wants to do with her own body. If she really feels she doesn't want the child, or believes in her heart she cannot support, look after or give it the love it deserves, and she doesn't want to give it up for adoption, then she should be able to get rid of the child.
I also think that the people who go around saying that its killing an innocent life, and that women should be forced into having the baby are only making such situations worse. The woman might not feel the love she should feel for her child if she feels like she had no choice in the matter. It's not murder, because the baby isn't technically alive until its been born. And as for saying the women should keep it because they shoud have used protection if they didn't want a child, well, I think thats silly because many people get pregnant whilst using protection.
At the end of the day, some people have very strong beliefs on such issues as these, and I'm not trying to say they are wrong, as everyones entitled to their own opinion, but it's also my belief that if a woman wants an abortion, the option to have one should be there.
I hope this helps!

No I do not think it should be illegal. America is the country of freedom and choice. There are several instances where it should be okay like some of the others have answered already. This world is over populated and there are millions of children in other countries that are dying everyday because of starvation and disease. If adoption is the option, then we should be adopting the children that are already in need. The americans in this country are waiting along for a young teenage girl to get pregnant and then from her mishap gain what they want, her baby. That certanly isnt fair because now this girl has to live her life knowing she has a child out there in this world and knows nothing about it. I am not saying young girls should use this as a birth control method either. But again back to the beginning point, it should not be illegal because we do have freedom in this country to believe in whatever it is we believe in. If one doesnt have the morals that abortion is murder then they should have the choice to have the abortion and not have a law that says well, you got pregnant (however that happened) so now you have to raise this baby if you can afford to or not because that is what the law is.

It doesn't matter how I feel personally about it- I believe the government doesn't have the right to make that decision for a woman.
And to the poster above who said that rape can be avoided by women simply not putting themselves in that position or situation? You're pretty much saying that every rape is the woman's fault. There's so much wrong with that allegation, that I don't even know where to begin. Nobody *asks* to be raped. The very definition of rape is forced sexual contact against the victim's will. It doesn't matter what they were wearing, or what they were doing. The second someone says "NO!", and the other person continues to force that unwanted contact, it becomes rape. Opinions like that play a huge part in why women (and even men) who are raped don't bother to report it to authorities.

Abortion should be and should stay legal. First of all....it's not murder. The baby may have a "heartbeat" at a few weeks old, but it is not a fully functioning heart or functioning human being. It's just a mass of cells. The reason it's called a "fetus" is because it is still not a self sustaining baby. I would much rather see an unwanted child be aborted... as for adoption....it looks good on paper but it is unrealistic. Part of being a parent is carrying the baby for 9 months......if you can't keep it then you shouldn't have it.

No. Why? Because I don't see the logic in making it illegal.
God gave us free will. Who are we to tell anyone not to use it? He will come to judge, what He says goes in the end so what is the point in judging or changing the facts of life God has given to us.
Science has yet to prove when life starts . Therefore no one really knows if life starts at conception or birth. When this is decided myself and others will be able to make an educated decision--I doubt that will ever happen but maybe.
I've taken several college courses on childhood development. I've watched movies, I've learned in detail the procedure, and I've learned about a mother's well being after a child is aborted. It's interesting that so many different references have been taken out of context. I would never suggest abortion. I don't like abortion--and think it's morally wrong. But the facts point to no, abortion shouldn't be illegal.
Pro-choice.

No, it shouldn't be illegal, and the reason is stated in your question. You said that it should be legal in a case of rape, but how is someone going to prove that they were raped when they go in to get an abortion? If a "rape abortion" were still legal, it would be easy for someone to lie about being raped in order to get an abortion. The anonymous system that we have now works better than if we were to have an exception system like that.

No. If they were, there would be a great increase of "back-alley" abortions (unsafe, home, unsterile, self abortions. Not to mention a lot more babies would be left for dead in garbage bags because the mother could not get an abortion. I mean, which would you rather have - legal, safe abortions performed by medical professionals? Or more dead babies or handicapped babies because of a failed home abortion......... hmm...)
And... wow, amosunknown... I'm shocked that a female would say most girls that get raped put themselves into that situation...... wow. I sure hope you never get raped.

I don't believe in abortion for my own personal reasons, and definately not as a method of birth control. Abortion should only be legal in the case of incest, rape, multiple births from invetro fertilization (ie. mother is preg w/ 8 babies and some have be removed for the remaining to survive), the baby is very very very deformed, or the mothers life is at risk.

I think it should be illegal. A woman should not have the right to choose to end someone else's life. In the case of rape, the guy should be forced to pay child support.
