My husband was in the Navy and often called away at a moments notice. It's hard I know but you have to develop your own life. I did a lot of volunteering and I am an artist so that passed my time. But you cant just sit around waiting for him to get back...find something that interests you and throw yourself into it. Try writing to him every day or every few days and keep a journal of your day to day life. My husband loved to read mine when he got home. That way he didnt feel he missed everything and we could laugh and cry at things together. Get together with some of the other wives and go on outings etc. But overall keep a positive outlook and fill your days with things you enjoy and be happy and waiting for him when he gets home.

Take time for yourself and try to get your focus off him being gone. I am marrying a guy that is in the navy and a month after we get married he is leaving. But part of being with him is knowing that this is what he has chosen to do for a living. Remember that you were your own person before he came along ... do those things that defined you. Remember absence makes the heart grow fonder.
