don't give a laptop to a five year old... that's a start.
maybe middle to high schoolers would be able to accept the responsibility of taking care of a laptop... the problems surface in public school and over-crowded classrooms, though and the faculty has little to no way to shake down the students for a missing item such as a laptop.
college students... don't leave it laying around for people to steal. take care of your belongings. common sense is all it takes, people. there are security measures that are becoming more and more available on laptops... things like thumbprint entry and usb locking mechanisms so even if someone were to steal it, the laptop would be useless. but still... take some responsibility and appreciate the things you have. otherwise you won't have them.

you can buy protection cables with combinations on them. I have no idea how they work but you can buy them at Best Buy and other electronic places. They work and they don't cost a fortune either
