Our soldiers are re-enlisting in waves because they believe in what this country stands for, and not the media's lies about how Iraq is so bad. Iraq is doing extremely well and there are numerous accounts of success stories in Iraq, but the media will not report on this, because they have an agenda. Instead they make up lies and blow up inconsequential mistakes to make it look like the USA is failing in Iraq. It may take many decades from now, but the truth will come out to the American public that what is happening in Iraq is noble and just, and is worth the many lives of those brave men who chose to lay down thier lives for our nation.

I do think the surge has accomplished a lot of what it was intended to, as far as bringing down violence, but I remain unconvinced that "a free and independent Iraq is right around the corner." Despite the fact that violence has gone down, and at least created an environment where political progress could be made, it just seems to be at a standstill, all these factions have a lot to work out, and can the US help them, sure, but there's only so much we can do, a lot of it is on them. I'll freely admit that I made the wrong call on the surge, I thought it was hopeless, but I think after the mismanagement of the past three years we had reason to be cynical. And even though I never supported the invasion, I sincerely hope it works out for them, although I think that's very questionable. It may get to a point where we have done all we can do, we trained the army, fended off the terrorists, but political progress is a lot trickier. Well, regardless of who is the next President, I hope they go into it with an open mind.

Dude seriously its called recall and it is almost the same as a backdoor draft. They are not letting soldiers out of the Army its called a Stop Loss policy. However these people did volunteer for service and if they ever read their paperwork they would know about it.Iraq is going badly at the moment but that doesn't mean we should give up.

Do you believe every story that your friends tell you? Why don't you check the official facts? The government just put a recall in place where soldiers who already completed their service 1-4 years ago are FORCED to come back and fight. If people were coming in droves to be soldiers, they wouldn't have needed to do that.
And you are also ignoring the REASONS why the few people who join the military do. Many of them have lost their jobs because conservatives have catered to big business and allowed American jobs to go overseas. These people can no longer put food on the table so they have no choice but to join the military and get living needs taken care of.

Because the Army offers free housing, food, medical, and dental, things which most people can't get on the outside. Guys I know re-enlisted because the have a family and the could not afford to keep them; in civilian life.

The valiant patriots that are serving our nation do so out of free will. Our troops understand their role is to protect our nation and not to create the policy that determines our military actions. A recruiter probably has little to do with active reenlistment's. These occur at the members' duty station. Serving in the military is a great obligation and responsibility. I for one am glad we have folks that are willing to give their lives for our freedom. I was honored to serve. I think many other Vets feel the same way.

they aren't re-enlisting because they believe in the war. They are fighting to keep each other alive out there. These soldiers are not concerned with the politics of it. they simply understand that if they don't go back more of their brothers and sisters will die.I will agree that some of them do believe the lies that we are told but that is still not the main reason they are returning.

We have an all volunteer armed forces. The people in the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines are the finest Americans there are. They re-enlist because unlike the Secular Progressives, they love their country. They believe our country if worth fighting for. It is not the Iraquis' that are killing our soldiers, it is outside forces, most from Iran who are doing the killing. We should all be praising and supporting the brave men and women in Iraq. To do anything else is treason.

i am married to one of those guys who just enlisted. he is currently in AIT at fort gordon. neither he, nor i, support president bush or agree with the the US being in iraq. however, we do support the idea of him being able to support our family and go to school, both of which are things that we were previously unable to afford. for him, the military is a job, plain and simple.
