maybe under $350? i will be using it to monitor my cars computer and also to tune it. but also for gaming and internet use. it just needs to have the basics, dvd player,burner,ect.

Try the dell website they sometimes have laptops for cheap...or if not try ebay

Hit eBay and see what's available.
If you choose the one you want right away, you can track prices and specs to see which one you will eventually bid on.
You can find some great laptops that may be old for someone else, but are great for you.

Well, you can get the for under $500 each year (new) at Best Buy during their Thanksgiving sale - which is coming up.

I don't know where you are but there is a website called http://www.craigslist.com that lists items for sale based on your location. You might be able to find something there that would be close enough for you to see before you buy and save on shipping costs as well.

to a google search for "cheap laptops" you'll find hundreds of sites that sell all kinds of used laptops for dirt cheap, you can find IBM's I think even Dell has a special department that only sells used or refurbished equipment.
