Ray Lewis. not because of his ability but based more on his energy. he elevates the whole team

Lewis and Urlacher are the two best but one has to remember that they are both on very good defensive teams. There are some fine linebackers on bad defensive teams that don't get as much recognition.
All around, though, I think Urlacher plays with the most intensity and also is a fine student of the game. Urlacher No. 1, but barely.

Brian Urlacher right now. I think ray lewis is still really good but getting a step slow, as well as zach thomas. Joey porter is good but not better than Urlacher or lewis.

Porter is much more of a threat than the other two. Lewis should be in jail & Urlacher is poor in pass coverage & vulnerable when run at head on.(Remember Bettis blastin' thru him & carrying him 4yds into the endzone?)

Brian Urlacher, that guy is a monster. He pretty much took over Monday Night game single handedly.

as of right now i would take urlacher. but for a whole career ray lewis. he has a super bowl, was on one of the best d's, and was defensive player of the year.

Out of those, Ray Lewis. But how about Merriman? He's Lewis' protege and is already earning respect around the league, he should at least be in your list of choices.
