At thermodynamics lectures, it was more than being unconcious... Me and my 36 classmates, as a result of Prof. Isaac Karakaya's ( the lecturer ) teaching methods, managed to sleep while our eyes were wide open. This way we managed to seem listening the Prof. during lecture, until that day...
That day, our prof. decided to ask a question to the class ( he was not kinda teacher that would ask questions ) and since we were asleep we didnt realise he was asking something, but he realised that we were sleeping and decided to awaken us by shouting " I guess I wont have to bother myself preparing questions for a midterm this year, because you all failed!!"
At that moment, me and my classmates were conscious of our unconcious...
For the record I managed to pass the class by DD

I am aware of the unconscious on the few occaisional times it still tries to trick me - hardly ever happens anymore.
The more awareness we have, the more conscious we are, the more "awake" we are, and the weaker the unconscious becomes.
This is a side effect of regular meditation practice; this one effect by itself makes the practice worthwhile.
