You may want to check with a family health center or some type of free clinic and see if she can get them their based on your income. If there are centers like that were you're at, you can pay a small fee at the initial visit and you can make payments on the rest. good luck with that.

First, where you live in Illinois and how much you make will be important in determining if you can get "assistance" for braces. You should start with a local office of Illinois Department of Public Aid, and also a county health department. Ask around.
As for not getting child support: do you have an order? If not, get one. If you do have an order, but s/he's not paying, make sure you have a case open with IL state child support and get that agency working on enforcing it.

Setting the braces aside for a moment, why don't you get any child support? Not just for braces, but for all the costs associated with raising a child. Sounds like it's time for a lawyer.

Go to Dept. of Human Services and apply for medicaid. They pay for my kids braces. You have to meet the income criteria, though. Seeing as how you DON'T get child support, you should qualify. Also, check on legal aide, or child support enforcement services while you are there.

You can get on public assistance just apply for a medical card and they will pay for the braces, but you have to go to one of their approved dentists. I live in illinois also and both my step-children need braces and they had to submit to public assistance for it and they are getting them next week. You can still make a good amount of money and get the medical card.
