Definitely coal effect. It doesn't look exactly like a real fire, but it isn't far off - people are always asking if my fire is real or not! Log fires just don't glow the right way. Gel fires look cool, but they don't smoulder like real fires and hardly give off any heat - they're really just a flame.

I have got one of each, log is the best, most people think its real. With the price of gas, hardly used at the moment.

neither - at a push I'd go for a good coal effect - but the best effect is with a gel fire - and you don't need gas or electricity either! - or a flue! Just google gel fireplaces............

Definitely log. We have one which I thought was real logs when it was installed until I picked it up (a log that is) and it weighed about half an oz.

If it's done well, I think the log fireplaces look better. They can look terrible if they're poorly done, so be wary. I've definitely been fooled by fake logs!

log you can get the ones that look reallyy reall you would have a better look with log i hope that it looks good in your home have fun!!!!
