I'm referring to the 16 year old boy that got stabbed for breaking up a fight. The murderer said he didn't mean to stab him. Then why did he have a knife, why did he pull it out and why did he push it into his body!

In a country where it is common to carry knife and if there is a case of stabbing it could be for two reasons. Self defence when the person is attacked. The defending act may lead to stabbing and murder. Secondly one may get infuriated at the othermans action, abuse, etc and he stabs under the momentary anger. That is also wrong but does not attract severe punishment.
Another stabbing may be intentional to cause injury, it is preplanned and executed . This attracts severe punishment.

These things cannot be decided by a court on the whims and fancies of the judge but by clear proven evidence. Which category do you belong to.

Belinda, it is human nature to justify your own actions. You're right. If you carry a weapon around it's just a matter of time before something bad happens. The sad thing is that the people who are most capable of handling a weapon, don't carry them. It's always someone who's not quite all there who has to carry a large handgun or knife. I've found that if you don't put yourself in a situation where you are likely to be attacked, you don't have any problem. I'm not saying people who walk around alone at 2:30 in the morning alone deserve to be attacked or killed, but if they were at home, it never would have happened. If someone wants to do you harm, there is not a lot you can do. You can minimize the chances of being harmed by not putting yourself into bad situations.

Well that made no sense to me. You say you carry one.. So you must intend to stab someone to. Why are these people fools if you carry a knife for the same reason?

Well it depends what you mean -

In the recent case in england when the boy stabbed his school mate and then said he didn't mean to kill him - his excuse is pretty lousy. If i was the boy's mother i wouldn't care for such an excuse.

However it is true that lots of people who have never shot/killed/hurt someone else do not realise how delicate the human body is or how easily we bleed and die. - not in a romantic or slapstick hollywood way but a painful bloody awful pointless way. Giving the child the benefit of the doubt he may have not intended to kill the other boy but that just adds to the tragedy of the situation.

We seem to have a deteriorating cycle of violence and machismo in many of our young people in the UK that whilst not as bad as the situation in other countries is a serious cause for concern.

To what incident exactly are you refering?

I can relate with how you feel though, Why would someone carry a knife without the intent of using it? "No, no, no officer, I bought this car but never intended on driving it!"
