Yes, technically, after your phone is unlocked, you can use Cingualr or T-mobile network for either contract plan or prepaid (it doesn't matter)because they use the same GSM technology.

If you can buy a T-mobile "SIM prepaid card"--Just a sim card with some airtime with it, you can start using prepaid service.
(You may find it on-line, it's hard to find and sort of expensive)

If you can not find a SIM prepaid card, you will have to buy a T-mobile prepaid kit, which is available in many retail stores (It come with a new phone and a SIM card)

the nice thing about your cingular phone is all you have to do is call customer service at cingular and ask either for them to unlock it or send you a prepaid simcard or you can buy a gophone or tmobile togo kit and switch phones using the sim so say you get sick and tired of one phone then you can swap by putting the simcard in the other phone :-) HTH I personally prefer CDMA to GSM which is what you have because I personally Hate simcards anyway HTH!!!

If it's locked on Cingular, he has to call Cingular to cancel the account and make sure it's paid. I believe you will have to go with a contract plan rather than cards with minutes. But you could ask them.

when you unlock the phone that means you can use that phone with any GSM phone carrier and it will work you can get prepaid service with that phone right now with cingular but if you unlock the phone you will be able to get prepaid with any GSM carrier. unlocking the phone has nothing to do with a contract service.
