I am applying to four art colleges and I need some help on what exactly I should put in there. It's a 20-piece portfolio.

What art schools are interested on, when looking at a portfolio is:

1) Your creativity

2) Your level of skills in:
- Composition
- Drawing
- Color Design
- Different Techniques

The first 5-6 pieces should be your best and more comprehensive pieces. They should be able to show how good you are in all of the above areas.

The rest of them can be works that make emphasis on one specific area and they can be as wide in range as you want, the wider the better. It is still too early to have a defined style. For example a character you've designed, or a nice realistic drawing, even if the composition is not the best could be included to show your drawing abilities or how you work on pencil.

Another tip, leave one of your best pieces as work number 8 or 9. That will catch their attention again. After work number 10 they already have an idea of your level and talent so the last 10 pieces don't have to be as good as the first 5.

Remember that the art college reviewers have experience recognizing raw talent so don't worry if they are not excellent pieces or if you cannot cover all the topics. Do pay attention to how well the portfolio is put together. It is your card of presentation. It shows how much you care about yourself, how much you respect your work and the people looking at it.

i imagine its exceptionally solid. The hand drawing is a touch stiff notwithstanding. i recognize the owl drawing. in the cherry drawing, attempt to operate extra values. Make the darkish shadows darker. The panorama drawing is exceptionally solid too. The pumpkin one is advantageous, except that the table looks a touch out of attitude. i like the shading notwithstanding. the girl on the top of the %. is solid, and the single in the start is very well. i'm no longer truly particular what else to operate, yet solid success!
