Absolutely. The BCS is a bunch of computers that decide who goes to a national championship game. Look at NCAA Hoops. In March Madness, anything can happen. George Mason was an 11 seed. They made it to the Final Four (Their national rank was in the mid-40's). But does a team in the national mid-40's in college football (say, Brigham Young, or South Carolina) get ANY consideration for a national title. Of course not, since they've lost games. A 12 team playoff would be viable, with the top 4 seeds getting 1st round byes, played throughout the month of December, and into January. The Bowl Games are fine for non-Top 12 teams, but the BCS, as it stands, just doesn't work as a system for a national championship.

Of course they should! The BCS computer is the worst invention since the Chia Pet.
How else are we supposed to know who the real champions are when there are two different polls with two different Number Ones?
Opponents try to argue that the playoff system would make the season too long, but I think that's a cop out! The NCAA is composed of a lot of slick guys. The least they could do is come up with a playoff system that adequately balances the competing interests in a realistic season length, financial output and finding the true victors of college football.

Division II and Division III college football have a playoff system but the amount of money is like thousands vs. tens of millions for Division I.
Division I has too many greedy conferences who need the TV and Bowl money to support Women's badminton programs thanks to Title IX.
My answer would be yes. Maybe split the country along the Mississippi and have a East/West national championship game. Would require new conferences with schools based solely East or West of the Mississippi.

absolutely. the season ends in november and they have a whole month that they could be playing games and have the championship game on New Years Day like it used to be. NCAA is just afraid of losing all that money coming from the bowl games. Heck, let the sponsors sponsor the different playoff games and even play them where the bowl games are played now.

I WOULD SUGGEST THAT YOUR TEAM NOT LOSE. THE OTHER LEAGUES BEAT UP ON EACH OTHER, TOO. GRANTED, THE SEC IS PROBABLY THE BEST CONFERENCE RIGHT NOW, BUT THE OTHER MAJOR CONFERENCES COULD COMPETE WITH THEM. I DO BELIEVE THERE SHOULD BE A PLAYOFF SYSTEM, BUT NOT FOR THE SOLE PURPOSE OF THE SEC TEAMS GETTING A CHANCE TO PLAY FOR THE TITLE GAME.

I think the BCS system is the best 1A football will ever get, because of the economics behind big time college football.
But remember: Divisions 1AA, II, III, and the NAIA schools ALL have national playoffs!!!

I dont really think a playoff is necessary. I think they should play all the bowl games, then after all the bowl games play another game to decide the national championship.

i think they should have play-offs....just like the pros....
the #1 and #2 seeds get a bye the 1st week
#3 plays #6
#4 plays #5
the lowest seed then plays the #1 seed
and the highes seed plays the #2 seed
for ex...if #6 and #4 wins then #6 will play #1 and #4 will play #2...
and the winners of them 2 games will meet for the Nat'l title!

Yes, but like everyone else, I don't think it will happen. There is too much money involved in the bowl games. It's sad....but true.
