where do you live in the world? If Alaska or the north pole then no. If UK or the rest of Europe, then yes provided that they have warm, dray draughtproof accommodation like a large hutch with a bed compartment filled with cosy shredded paper and the hutch placed facing east in a sheltered part of the garden or inside a shed.
My guinea pigs (Cambridgeshire, England) live loose on my land but I have several hutches placed around the place filled with straw or shredded paper and they do just fine.
Contrary to what some pople seem to believe. Although they live in the South American Andes, where the summer days are warm, the nights drop below freezing and the winters are also very cold. The difference is that the air is very dry. Damp will kill them, not cold.I have kept free range guinea pigs here in England for about 15 years now and as long as they have dry sleeping quarters qith straw or even better, shredded paper to snuggle in, they do very well. Covering the hutch up will kill them quicker because that creates humidity and they end up with breathing problems and die.
Warm and damp will always kill more animals than cold and dry.

That stinks, but I have a couple ideas that might help! (: You are very much right on the hay, it keeps guinea pigs warm. I wouldn't put something in there that could be harmful if nibbled and eaten, you know what would happen, right? I personally think old t-shirts, maybe heat them up in the drier. Goodluck with your guinea pig and I hope I helped!

Absolutely not!!!! Please do not leave them out or they will die very soon. Guinea Pigs are native to South America (Guinea) and are definitely warm climate creatures. Of course if you live in South America they will be o.k. but I live in South England and even with climate change, it's still too cold for them to be outside now. They cannot stand the cold unlike rabbits. Please get a proper book to give you the best information for looking after them. My own guinea pig used to have the run of the house and was even house trained!

Ours stayed outside, in a hutch with hay to make a bed, all last winter in Yorkshire and they're very much still alive.

It is best to keep them inside as they can't tolerate changes in temperature easily and can die from the cold. Get them a run or guinea proof a room so they can get some exercise every day rather than being kept in their cage.

only if they're in a well insulated and very dry hutch..they do catch colds fairly easily and unfortunately, they cant breathe if they do get a cold so they die..I had this happen to me a few year ago, both my guinea pigs escaped out of their hutch and was running round the damp garden and they both got a cold and died the next night.so be careful..

Jesus. No. They are originally from South America and are used to WARM climates. They NEED to stay warm. If not, they can easily get an Upper Respiratory Infection (URI) and will die quickly after that.
Keep in mind, their body temperatures are slightly higher than ours.

ABSOLUTELY NOT!!Unless you have a little heated condo for them.DO YOU WANT TO STAY OUTSIDE FOR THE WINTER?
Please, if you can't have them in the house, then find someone that will love them and take care of them.No domestic animal such have to endure the cold of winter!Wild animals know how to protect themselves from the cold. But any animal you have purchased from a pet store,is not equipped to live outside, and will become prey for another animal. Please don't put those little creatures outside in the cold!! God bless

Yes they can. IF they have a hutch that is dry and has plenty of bedding for them to snuggle up in.
I recommend you read the answer left by 'fenlandfowl'.
