At 22-23 weeks about 24 per cent of babies survive.
At 24 weeks, the figure rises to 31 per cent
By 25 weeks the survival rates are 50 per cent
From 32 weeks onwards, most babies are able to survive with the help of medical technology. The further you are into your pregnancy, the better your baby’s chances will be. Hope this helped a little. Good luck with your little bundle of joy.

Congratulations!! As new as technology is a 17 week old fetus can survive but it is very risky and many complications with health. Here are some calculations 21 weeks-0%survival
22 weeks-0-10%survival
23 weeks-10-35%survival
24 weeks-40-70% survival
25 weeks-50-80% survival
26 weeks-80-90% survival
27 weeks-greater than 90% survival

The great thing about the world today is how far technology has come. I have a friend whose son was born at 26 weeks and he survived. You would never know he was born so early by looking at him.

I can't remember what the week was when I was pregnant last. I think it was after 24-26 weeks they say the chances of survival are pretty good. Can't remember the exact percentage though.

Obviously, the closer you go to your due date, the better. Hopefully your lil one will decide to stick it out for the whole time.

probably about 24 weeks 6 months your baby can survive but would need to stay in the hospital until he/she hit a certain weight. My cousin had a c-section at the end of six months and the baby is 2 now and healthy she stayed in the hospital though until she hit a weight, cause when she was born she was only a little over 1-2 Ibs.

When I was in hospital after having my son there was a lady there who had given birth at 29 weeks. Her son Harry had to stay in Special Care Baby Unit until the date he should have born. He was small and poorly for the first year of his life, but by the time he was 2 he had caught up.

"Most pregnancies last around 40 weeks. Babies born between 37 and 42 weeks of pregnancy are called full term. Babies born before 37 completed weeks of pregnancy are called premature or preterm. About 12 percent of babies in the United States are born preterm. Of those, the majority (84 percent) are born between 32 and 36 weeks of gestation. About 10 percent are born between 28 and 31 weeks of gestation, and about 6 percent are born at less than 28 weeks of gestation."

My pregnancy book says that after the 6months ( about 26 weeks) the baby may survive with intesive care...but by the 8th month it should make it for sure.
Go get a book called " what to expect when you are expecting" by Heidi Murkoff. It's the pregnancy bible and will help with all these questions. I refer to it almost daily right now and I am due Feb 2, 2007. Your question as well as many others that you would not expect is in there. It's excellent in describing all of these little things that worry moms and help distinguish when something is "normal" or not.
Good Luck!

The risk of having a miscarriage ends when you enter your second trimester which is 14 weeks. But if your baby is born before your 40 weeks there is great chance that he/she will surivive. There are alot of advances in technology now that help a premature baby survive. So don't worry.

Ideally full term of course, but babies are considered viable at 24 weeks, and every week after that their odds improve. My youngest was born at 29 weeks and will be three next month and she's as close to perfect as can be. Good luck but don't stress about things you can't change.

I believe as early as 23-24wks..they are considered Mirco-preemies. At 28wks there is a 80% chance that a baby will be completely healthy(giving the right care at first)...and it goes up with each week
