I think it's damper at night so the washing won't dry as fast. Small items dry faster indoors overnight on a drying rack. No matter how you look at it, when you live in the UK or Ireland, you have to contend with poor drying conditions in spring, autumn and winter.

Check your local weather for Humidity %age and Dew Point temperature (the temp where moisture "dew" forms in the air).
If the humidity is 70-75% or high - it'll be slow drying without the sun. If the weather predicts that the temp will be at or below the dew point - your clothes could end up wetter before they're drier.
Good Luck!

At night, the humidity rises, and you are likely to find your clothes dripping wet in the morning. A cloudy day would be better, but a sunny day is best. I suppose this is obvious, but I have had occasion to test this by numerous hangings of towels in Tennessee. And yes, they will smell a bit off in the morning, too, kind of musty/dusty.

All other factors being equal, No, not as quickly. But it can still dry at night if it is warm enough and there is a breeze blowing.

No it won't, it will be smelly too, bring it in and hang it over one of those cheap clothes airer's instead, a tip, if the ground is wet during the day don't bother hanging clothes out because they won't dry, wait until the ground is dry for well dried clothes.

No - it will tend to smell - as night comes on and as it gets cooler, - especially in the autumn and winter, you'll hit dew point and the clothes will get wet again - then dry - then wet - and the bacteria growth will make them whiff. Best to hang out during the day, ideally windy - sun isnt important. if not, hanging indoors is better - just as long as you do it quite quickly you're ok!

you will have more of a chance of it drying on a cloudy day than at night and the chances are slim and none
