Since nobody has touched this question, I'll jump in. I'm not very familiar with genetic algorithms but have read some on the subject. Ref. 1 below mentions (and illustrates) seeking a maximum point in a 3-D landscape, and I'm sure you know that many optimization problems can be set up similarly. Some interesting system design optimization examples are described in ref. 2. You may be familiar with and way beyond these but I wanted to provide a response just to show that there is some interest in the subject.
