Since August, my laptop has been picking up a virus everytime I insert the wireless broadband card. This is my first time encountering this and wonder if there could be a problem with the card or if there is some kind of latent virus on the laptop that is "provoked" when the card is inserted. The laptop works fine without the card.

Spyware.

Run Adaware or Spysweeper to eliminate the vermin first, In all likelihood you have a spybot daemon running on the laptop, and when it connects to the "net" it launches some type of payload.

Then update your anti-virus and your spyware software and run a scan with each of them. Then reload the wireless card and try again.
