Tupac was a great writer of lyrics. However, have you ever heard of rappers like Common, KRS-One, Gza from the Wu-Tang Clan, Biggie, Rakim, Souls of Mischief, Tha Alkaholiks, Xzibit, Tribe Called Quest, Redman, Busta Rhymes, Method Man. I think all of these guys were better rappers than Tupac. Why because they had wordplay out the butt! Yes, wordplay is what makes a rapper really great. Common's Ressurrection Album. Tupac could never come off lyrically like that. Tupac would lose to a lot of these guys in freestyle battles. I never heard anybody say, "You know how Tupac dropped metaphors and similies like that." Nope. Tupac was just the most famous. Most famous doesn't make you the best! He stirred a lot more controversy and was willing to kill anybody, that don't make him a great rapper. Great rappers are the ones I listed above. Wordplay! Next time you listen to 2Pac, listen for some wordplay. You won't find none. Play with the rhymes a bit! Show some creativity! 2Pac wasn't the best

being the greatest rapper of all time isnt based solely on lyricism and wordplay...... its based on how much of an influence you had on society and on the music industry in general....... when tupac rapped, he set out to do something, he set out to not to only entertain, but to educate, and theres no denying that is something he accomplished. 10 yrs later and people still talk about him to this day, 10 yrs later and you can still hear tons of people bumpin his music in their cars...... im not sayin that those other dudes arent great because they are, but none of them had the kind of influence that pac had

let me ask you.... do any of those other rappers have classes of themselves and their poetry in prestigious universities? will any of those be remembered as much after they die like 2pac has?.........2pac is dead and he's still making millions of dollars. Youre just one of the few who believe 2pac isnt as great as most people say he is which only tells you that most do.......

I understand what you're saying about other guys would beat him in a freestyle battle. It's true they would have but think about this. Music is art. Art inspires us to be better, do better, change ugliness. As far as i'm concerned Tupac was the better artist. He had passion and felt a duty towards the less fortunate. He felt a duty to expose it. That's why I think tupac was the greatest.

Pac was the greatest rapper of all time... like it or not. What makes him the greatest?

He reached out to people's innermost wants, fears, dreams etc. He was "real". Do you know where I am? ZIMBABWE my friend. But I can tell you Tupac's lyrics sound like they were addressed to me!! Even now I refer to his lyrics for motivation.

All these other rappers sound like an act to me... Tupac sounds like a life story.

It's true, Tupac is the overrated rapper ever...

He had poetry, but not creativity with his lyrics, Biggie had it, Nas had it, Wu-Tang had it, they call Q-Tip the "abstract poet"

Tupac never made rhymes like...

or

"I bomb atomically, socrates' philosophies
And hypothesis can't define how i be droppin these
Mockeries, lyrically perform armed robbery
Flee with the lottery, possibly they spotted me
Battle-scarred shogun, explosion when my pen hits
Tremendous, ultra-violet shine blind forensics
I inspect you, through the future see millenium
Killa b's sold fifty gold sixty platinum
Shacklin the masses with drastic rap tactics
Graphic displays melt the steel like blacksmiths
Black wu jackets queen b's ease the guns in
Rumble with patrolmen, tear gas laced the function"

or

"It was all a dream
I used to read word up magazine
Salt'n'pepa and heavy d up in the limousine
Hangin' pictures on my wall
Every saturday rap attack, mr. magic, marley marl
I let my tape rock 'til my tape popped
Smokin' weed and bamboo, sippin' on private stock
Way back, when i had the red and black lumberjack
With the hat to match
Remember rappin' duke, duh-ha, duh-ha
You never thought that hip hop would take it this far
Now i'm in the limelight 'cause i rhyme tight
Time to get paid, blow up like the world trade"

or

"I'm the one-man army, Ason
I've never been tooken out, I keep MC's lookin out
I drop science like girls be droppin babies
Enough to make a ***** go cra-a-azy
Energy buildin, takin all types of medicines
Your *** thought you were better than
Ason, I keep planets in orbit
While I be comin with teeth, bitin more ****
"

or

"I got so many rhymes I don't think I'm too sane
Life is parallel to Hell but I must maintain
and be prosperous, though we live dangerous
cops could just arrest me, blamin us, we're held like hostages
It's only right that I was born to use mics
and the stuff that I write, is even tougher than dice
I'm takin rappers to a new plateau, through rap slow
My rhymin is a vitamin, Hell without a capsule
The smooth criminal on beat breaks
Never put me in your box if your **** eats tapes"

or

"The instamatic focal point bringing damage to your boroughs
Be some brothers from the east with some beats that be thorough
Got the solar gravitation so I'm bound to pull it
I gets down like brothers are found ducking from bullets
Gun control means using both hands in my land
Where it's all about the cautious livin'
Migrating to a higher form of consequence, compliments
Of strugglin', that shouldn't be notable,
Man every word I say should be a hip hop quotable."

And look what Tupac did before he was serious.... dude's strictly overrated...

Busta Rhymes. Redman. Method Man. Xzibit.

You think THEY'RE better than Tupac.

After reading that BS, I shouldn't even really give this the time of day but I'm going to humor you for a second.

I felt the pain in pac's lyrics and he spoke about real sh*t. Tupac was a poet and a true lyricist and it showed in his music.

The artists you mentioned are better rappers than Tupac. Pac was a lyricist. There's a huge difference, homie.

Anyone that refers to biggie or KRS1 as rappers doesn't know jack about hip hop anyway.

---------------------------

Some say the blacker the berry, the sweeter the juice
I say the darker the flesh then the deeper the roots
I give a holler to my sisters on welfare
Tupac cares, if don't nobody else care
And uhh, I know they like to beat ya down a lot
When you come around the block brothas clown a lot
But please don't cry, dry your eyes, never let up
Forgive but don't forget, girl keep your head up
And when he tells you you ain't nuttin don't believe him
And if he can't learn to love you you should leave him
Cause sista you don't need him
And I ain't tryin to gas you up, I just call em how I see em
You know it makes me unhappy (what's that)
When brothas make babies, and leave a young mother to be unhappy
And since we all came from a woman
Got our name from a woman and our game from a woman
I wonder why we take from our women
Why we rape our women, do we hate our women?
I think it's time to kill for our women
Time to heal our women, be real to our women
And if we don't we'll have a race of babies
That will hate the ladies, that make the babies
And since a man can't make one
He has no right to tell a woman when and where to create one
So will the real men get up
I know you're fed up ladies, but keep your head up

Aiyyo, I remember Marvin Gaye, used to sing ta me
He had me feelin like black was tha thing to be
And suddenly tha ghetto didn't seem so tough
And though we had it rough, we always had enough
I huffed and puffed about my curfew and broke the rules
Ran with the local crew, and had a smoke or two
And I realize momma really paid the price
She nearly gave her life, to raise me right
And all I had ta give her was my pipe dream
Of how I'd rock the mic, and make it to tha bright screen
I'm tryin to make a dollar out of fifteen cents
It's hard to be legit and still pay tha rent
And in the end it seems I'm headin for tha pen
I try and find my friends, but they're blowin in the wind
Last night my buddy lost his whole family
It's gonna take the man in me to conquer this insanity
It seems tha rain'll never let up
I try to keep my head up, and still keep from gettin wet up
You know it's funny when it rains it pours
They got money for wars, but can't feed the poor
Say there ain't no hope for the youth and the truth is
it ain't no hope for tha future
And then they wonder why we crazy
I blame my mother, for turning my brother into a crack baby
We ain't meant to survive, cause it's a setup
And even though you're fed up
Huh, ya got to keep your head up

And uhh
To all the ladies havin babies on they own
I know it's kinda rough and you're feelin all alone
Daddy's long gone and he left you by ya lonesome
Thank the Lord for my kids, even if nobody else want em
Cause I think we can make it, in fact, I'm sure
And if you fall, stand tall and comeback for more
Cause ain't nuttin worse than when your son
wants to kno why his daddy don't love him no mo'
You can't complain you was dealt this
hell of a hand without a man, feelin helpless
Because there's too many things for you to deal with
Dying inside, but outside you're looking fearless
While tears, is rollin down your cheeks
Ya steady hopin things don't all down this week
Cause if it did, you couldn't take it, and don't blame me
I was given this world I didn't make it
And now my son's getten older and older and cold
From havin the world on his shoulders
While the rich kids is drivin Benz
I'm still tryin to hold on to survivin friends
And it's crazy, it seems it'll never let up, but
please... you got to keep your head up

-----------------------

That song keeps me going sometimes. I can't say the same for any of the artists you mentioned.

Since I detest rap music ( along with hip hop ) I don't think there is any "best" in that category. It's just noise & disgusting words strung together . . . not music at all.
