I have always wondered. I have always liked watching Grambling football and at one time, when I was a little lad, I wanted to go there but my dad told me it was an African-American school. Why do we still have an one color school these days?

I'm not saying they should close, I just was wondering about the irony.

Of course.

In fact, they probally would accept you faster than a black man in Ivy league.

What most people fail to realize is just because the college happens to be historically black doesn't mean that other races are barred.

As you and others well know, Black colleges were developed because back then, blacks were barred from regular colleges.

We weren't allowed a chance even if we met or exceeded the qualifications to attend.

Blacks were denied education and other rights that others could enjoy.

That's where the black programs and organizations came from.

Of Course you could attend a Historically Black College if you wanted to. Once you are comfortable in your own skin and accepting of other backgrounds why not! The reason why we have one color schools as you asked has a lot to do with the obvious past history. Many African Americans were banned from receiving an education. The HBCU's are products of higher institutions in which African Americans were/are able to strive and be successful amongst their own race in this judgmental world we live in.

Of course you could go to a HBCU (Historically Black College or University) and play football. It would negate every thing that we as a nation have worked for to discriminate like this. There are still black colleges because that's the way they have always been. Traditions last a long time if you hadn't noticed. And it's nice to go somewhere where the people are like you and you feel at home. But it's not like white people don't attend them. I personally have a white friend who goes to Howard. But the reality is that most white people probably wouldn't want to go to a black school. Trust me, I know, it's VERY uncomfortable to go to a school where you are very much in the minority. And I think many whites would hesitate to put themselves in this situation because (and this comment may spark a fire) lots of black people are hostile towards whites. So while yes, there are still schools with a population of mainly blacks, that is a product of society at large. Not just one race.

There may be some private schools that cater specifically to African-Americans. Anything that is a private institution can usually limit their members (or in this case, students) to a particular race/religion, because they have a different set of standards than public, government-sponsored institutions.

However, if a Caucasian student wanted to enroll, they could probably take it to court, but the outcome could go either way.

Yes, one could. But they would be pushed to not join by the administration and would be treated very differently by the student body. It is ok to segregate by race if it is what the minority race wants, but it is not ok to segregate by race if it is what the majority wants. There are still all-female schools. There are even Hispanic only schools in California and elsewhere I imagine. And, the fact that there are still primarily all-black schools proves this. But, try and find a school that pushes to be all-white or all-male. The all-male schools have been destroyed in the last few decades.

I am not saying whether one form of segregation is ok over another, or whether it is ok in general. But, if it is going to be accepted by one group, then it has to be acceptable to all groups.

Another for instance. A man is unable to join an all-women's collegiate sports team. But she is able to join the regular (use to be all-male) sports team. I am glad there is a female sports team and organization. But, let's not open one door while keeping the other doors closed. Let's keep those doors open both ways. If that is the way things are going to be, that is.

However, there is something to be said for a single gender school. For what it lacks in stress, harassments, tension, and sexual disruption, it makes up for in grades, dedication, comradery, openess, and feeling of all-togetherness.

Yes, a Caucasian can. In fact, by the Whites being a minority in that kind of school, you can get scholarships as well. You have to talk with the school and dig around for that info. Hampton University in Va, is made up mostly of African Americans, but I'll bet a Caucasian can get in, and get a scholarship. I heard that they have.

Of course! It's illegal not to let someone into something because of their skin color. You're probably asking this cuz it's way more outrageous if a thing such as a White college exists than it is if a Black college exists (only God knows why we whites are punished harder for racism...), but law's law and it applies to everyone.

What, are the historically black schools supposed to close just because we are now somewhat accepted at schools that would not enroll before the black schools came along? Anyway, you can apply and probably would be accepted, white folks attend historically black colleges also
