Well. in the gold rush times, some drunk broke a bottle on some steps, he then said I'l call this place Virgina City, the name stuck. No need to waste a good fifth I think. Maybe it was even worth it.

There isn't any. There are only two cities named Virginia in the entire United States, and none of them are in the west.

Cities:
Virginia, Illinois
Virginia, Minnesota

However, there is one town named Virginia City. It is fairly western, in Montana.
