Honestly, when they can't possibly imagine YOUR life without THEM. They have no concept that you need to be with other people and do things without them.
I had to get rid of a friend last year. The heffer wouldn't give me a damn break. I couldn't even go on dates unless she knew about it or she went along. At first I thought she was gay but it turns out that she had some damn abandonment issues that I had nothing to do with. But, I cut her loose after she couldn't catch on that I needed to live my life for me not for us.

Yes, I have delt with that before and I know how frustrating it can be. Obviously a friend that is clingy looks up to you. So, be a good influence. That's probably rule number 1. If you don't want that person to be clingy (rule number 1 still applies) then don't tell them personal stuff that they might be able to spread around. Usually clingy people have more that one person to cling to. Be kind, but pull away a little. If they call, don't lie, but tell them your not in the mood right then and maybe set up a different day. When setting up the day, be sure that you use hrs. Ex. 2pm-4pm and that's all. Otherwise, you might end up having to spend the whole day with that person! Ahhhhh!! lol kk, if you have a good excuse for not hanging out with that person then use it. Another way to avoid them is to schedual a bizzilloin other dates with other friends. Muhaha! Then you can just say you're going to be busy and you can't hang out for like 3 weeks! Anyway, that's about all that I've got. If you see them at school, I feel sorry for you. lol I'm homeschooled, so I don't have an answer for that one! Good luck!

Yes I most definately have experienced this. You know when your friend is too clingy when she/he calls 2-3 times a day or stops by, doesn't realize that you have a life outside of them, gets mad when you can only spend a few hours with them instead of a whole night, excepts you to be there when they have problems even though you have more important things to deal with. Thinks that your existence is for them only. The list goes on and on. Clingy people are hard to deal with. Im dealing with someone like that right now to the point where I just want to say "F*** off and get outta my life". I feel like I'm being stalked. Anyways good luck to you :)

If you can sit at home and know they won't come round, they're not too clingy.
If you are living on a razor's edge, waiting for the knock at the door, they are too clingy!
Just tell them to f*ck off, if they're still your friend afterwards then they're a true friend and the clinginess will probably go away.

When your friend becomes more of a nuisance than a friend - when you feel your life isnt your own anymore - when you find yourself ignoring her calls or telling lies to her - then your friend has become too clingy xx

When they are a limpet - it's suffocating.
Don't be nasty, just don't be so enthusiastic about your friend's ideas etc.
They'll soon get the message.
