Not in my family! We keep the Christmas spirit alive by not getting caught up in the commercialism of Christmas. Make it heartfelt, baking ,spending time with family and remembering that the reason for Christmas is the birth of our savior. Not to spend so much money that it becomes a stressful time. I think that's why some people might not be excited. The pressure of having to give, and making it a good enough gift is disgusting.

I think its the same for everyone. When you're young its magical because you still believe in santa and you dont have the stress or expense. When we get older its just another worry and because its so commercialised now its more of a worry than ever. Personally I would like to see more of the old traditional christmases with families together etc. rather than the greed of expensive presents. I also think that things like the shops opening through out the holidays has killed it - years ago Christmas and new year shut downs in factories and some shops lasted up to 2 weeks. Now people dont have time to enjoy it.

The Christmas tradition you seem to be referring to is the one where, as a child, you got lots of gifts etc. That isn't even what the holiday is about anyway. The holiday is the celebration of our Lord's birthday. We should be more Christ like and help others during the holidays and not worry about how many things are under the tree for ourselves and our children. Give, Give, Give. With a warm and loving heart.

Christmas as we knew it is definitely fading out. As global commerce increases, the emphasis has changed so that Christmas is less and less about representing a happy time of sharing and caring, and joyful families, fun and games and religious festivity, but is leaning more and more towards big business and big profits. It's now mainly an expensive commercial enterprise designed through heavy use of clever advertising and media pressure to extract people from as much of their money as possible.

It's changed. It's all commercialism now. If you go to other countries (like Romania) The spirit is still alive. It's what Christmas is about. Family, friends, love, togetherness etc... We still have it in the USA but it's all about $$$.

They forget what it is about and they worry about presents to much and the rush and rush here and there bc they have two or more families that they have to visit on christmas. It is just stressful for some bc they forget why they are doing all this for. It is not about presents its about Birth of jesus and family.

I totally agree!! remembering times when i was a kid, sitting in the bus through Orchard rd stretch in the night to watch lightings with mom and granny....those were the days! now, things are different now like wat u said, so i always give beautifully wrapped presents in big red or gold ribbon bows to loved ones and friends to bring back the Xmas Spirit!

It's like that for all the other holidays too, I think people are tired of fooling with it, but if you have children you have to give them good holiday memories, like you had when you were a child.
