I remember hearing something about the time they didn't have an annoucer for a Monday Night Football game, and the ratings on it were really bad. A lot of times, it's part of the enjoyment to have someone call the game. It allows you to not have to be so attentive to details to keep up with the game. That's what the annoucers are paid to do. Local announcers also influence how you view the game. They won't say much against the home team they are broadcasting for. Network analyists seem to be more objective and sometimes make watching your favorite team kind of upsetting when they say something against the team. Sometimes, we've muted the TV and turned on the AM radio broadcast of the Cardinals games. It was so much better to listen to Jack Buck anyday anyways!

Sounds like one of those retro 70s & 80s consoles.
Dunno where you are, but in London you can pick 'em up for about 20 quid in most gadget shops.
