Why do people in France get upset when you don't speak the French language while in their country?

Frustration comes when you cannot understand one another. There is a communication barrier.

Americans get upset that we now post everything in english and spanish.

I see no problem with it.

I don't know. Those French, they have a whole different word for everything! If I am just visiting their country and spend my hard earned bucks there I don't think they should get upset.

Just like if someone from another country is visiting here and they don't know the language I will help them anyway I can to enjoy their stay.

If someone moves here with the idea of staying here for good I think they should not only learn English but be required to do so.
