I'm a nutritionist
yogurt is an exception to the 1 year dairy rule (as long as there is not a reaction) it is generally considered safe for 6-9 month old infants
note: only whole fat, non-flavored (plain) yogurt should be used

butter has little to no nutritional value and I do not recommend putting it on your babys food

My baby's 8 months old and I just started giving her yogurt. There is yogurt made specifically for babies (it's made with whole milk) and is sold in the same section as regular yogurt.

As for butter, I'm trying to stay away from it until she's a bit older. the way I see it, there's really no nutritional value in butter and I prefer not to add unhealthy fats to her diet right now. Try giving your baby good fats instead (oils found naturally in fish etc.) If you cook your own baby food, try cooking with small amounts of olive oil instead of butter. It's healthier.

Hope that helped!

My son started eating yogurt at about 7 months. He loved it although some babies don't like it too much. Butter is in a lot of things that my son ate before a year old...so sometime before 1 for that....hope this helps!

I started each of my children on yougurt at about six months old. They acutally make yogurt for infants. It's in the same section as the regular yogurt. As far as butter, I can't say. I never consciously decided to give it to them. I guess whenever they were old enough to eat something with butter on it, they got to.

Yogurt around 9 months but my doctor told me to wait until 1. I never really gave my baby butter, unless it was in things. I know my oldest had mashed potatoes at 9 months and they had butter and milk in them.

yogurt is a very healthy food, plus, it's easy to digest, and babies love it. It's safe to give your baby food as soon as he/she can eat solid foods and you know they are not allergic to anything in the yogurt. Always read the ingredients if your baby is allergic to something. As far as butter goes, used it for scrambled eggs when my son was 5 months old, and I put it on bread and toast for him as soon as he was able to eat a piece of bread. He turned out perfectly fine.

At about 7-8 months, he has all kinds of dairy products, just not milk. He is 10 1/2 months now, and hasn't had any problems.
